Kuala Lumpur: Total of eight teams comprised of All-Star Asia, All-Star Europe, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Philippines will compete in the USD 1 million Axiata Cup Badminton Championship at Indonesia and Malaysia from Nov 27 to Dec 7.Malaysia national squad team beat Thailand 3-1 at the Axiata Cup Championship 2013 final in Cheras Badminton Stadium

The preliminary rounds would be held at Arena Britama, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, from Nov 27 to Dec 3 and the semi-finals and finals at Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras.

These teams will play preliminary rounds held at the Britama Arena Sports Mall, Kelapa Gading in Jakarta from Nov 27-Dec 3. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium (KLBA) in Cheras from Dec 6-7.

Each tie consists of four events – men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Indonesia Badminton Association has confirmed its top shuttlers such as champion Simon Santoso, Tommy Sugiarto, Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan and Ahmad Tontowi-Lilyana Natsir will participate in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the defending champions Malaysia will be spearheaded by world number one Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah.

The Axiata Group together with Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) and TSA, also announced a junior level tournament target towards 13-year-old to 16-year-old shuttlers in 12 states. Former Malaysian men’s doubles player Cheah Soon Kit will in charge of the Axiata Cup Juniors.

The Axiata Cup champion will take home prize money of USD400,000 (RM1.3 million), runner-up USD200,000 (RM656,999), third place USD150,000 (RM492,749), fourth place USD 100,000 (RM328,499), fifth place US$60,000 (RM196,755), sixth place US$40,000 (RM131,180), seventh place US$30,000 (RM98,300), eighth place US$20,000 (RM65,590).

Prize Money breakdown for the Axiata Cup Juniors is as follows:

State champions (24 states): RM500 per person in team

State champion schools (24): RM300 per school

National winner (one boy and one girl): RM1,500 each

National winner (schools – 2): RM500 per school.
