Kuala Lumpur: Reigning Commonwealth Games men’s doubles champions Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong have decided to skip the Bitburger Open badminton championships that will kick off in Saarbrucken, Germany on Tuesday.
“I injured my right knee, and have to fly home for medical treatment,” said V Shem at Germany.
The 195th-ranked Goh-Tan eliminated world number 11 Fu Haifeng-Zhang Nan of China in the first round of the Denmark Open last week, they advanced to the quarter-finals before losing to Lee Sheng Mu-Tsai Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei. They are expecting to rise 80 spots to 110th when Badminton World Federation (BWF) releases its latest world ranking report this week.
V Shem-Wee Kiong has been registered for the China Open starting Nov 11, and may also be playing in the last Superseries tournament of 2014 – Hong Kong Open, starting Nov 18-23.
