Kuala Lumpur: One of the most talented women’s doubles players in Malaysia, Ng Hui Ern has made it official yesterday that she is retiring from badminton to join the corporate world.
Since leaving the national team to pursue degrees in Economics at the University of Loughborough in Britain in 2011, sisters Ng Hui Ern and her sister Ng Hui Lin have done well to strike a balance between studies and badminton. The duo was once ranked as high as world number 23rd in the BWF world ranking.
“It’s a tough decision, but I know I have to start looking for job again once my badminton career is over, that’s why I’ve decided to get into the corporate world now instead of later,” said Hui Ern.
“I did very well in school, it boosted my confidence that I can do well in something else other than badminton.”
“It’s definitely not easy to land a job these days, but I will try to stay positive.”
Hui Ern however was not worried at all about her sister Ng Hui Lin who is now partnering Chan Peng Soon in mixed doubles.
“Hui Lin will be fine. Both of us have grown up and are mature enough to make our own decision. But I do feel sad about leaving my teammates and all the coaches at BAM.”
