Jakarta: Indonesia thrashed Malaysia 4-0 in their third preliminary round match of the 2014 Axiata Cup Badminton Tournament at Bratama Arena in Jakarta on Saturday.

Indonesia’s first men’s singles Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka who lost to Chong Wei Feng in the second singles tie at the Thomas Cup quarter-finals in May, didn’t let the history to repeat itself. Rumbaka’s girlfriend – Bellaetrix Manuputri, eased past Tee Jing Yi 21-8, 21-10 in the women’s singles event to collect the second point for Indonesia.

Indonesian men’s doubles pair Muhammad Ahsan-Markis Kido played a surprisingly upbeat match, sent Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong-Tan Boon Heong packing 21-17, 21-13.

World number four Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana simply been too strong for Chan Peng Soon-Lai Pei Jing in the mixed doubles event, the Indonesian swiftly racked up the fourth point for Indonesia with 21-13, 21-16 victory.

“It’s definitely a huge blow to our team, but I know our shuttlers have tried their best,” said Malaysian team manager Pang Cheh Chang.

“We will try to bounce back against Thailand tomorrow,” said the Malaysian team captain Chong Wei Feng.
