London: Chris and Gabby Adcock have expressed their delight after winning the MK Sports Personality of the Year award for 2014.
The mixed doubles duo were presented with their award ahead of Sport MK’s Sports Achiever of the Year event, which was held yesterday (Tuesday) at Shenley Leisure Centre in Milton Keynes.
Having just returned from a busy tournament schedule in Asia, the world number five couple are now in training ahead of the BWF World Superseries Finals in Dubai later this month.
Gabby told BADMINTON England: “It’s a big surprise but it’s an absolute privilege. We are both really over the moon and all the hard work pays off in the end, so we are really delighted to win the Sports Personality award for Milton Keynes.
“Me and Chris see Milton Keynes as our home now, we’ve both been here for so long so we are really, really pleased and proud to have that trophy!”
David Hildreth, Vice President of Sport Milton Keynes, said: “They have won the 2014 Sports Personality of the Year award for their fantastic achievements in badminton, particularly the Commonwealth Games and throughout 2014. They were clear winners.
“They are living locally and we are proud that they are. We very much look forward to seeing them at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships in March.”
Our sport was also featured on the night with the Team of the Year Award going to Stantonbury Campus Boys Badminton Team and England U16 player Fee Teng Liew winning the Girls Under 18 award.
