Purple League: Muar City rises to the top

Kuala Lumpur: Muar City BC shot down Bangsar Hawks BC 18-3 to reclaim the top spot in the Purple League rankings on Sunday.

South Korean veteran Lee Hyun-Il of Muar City BC faced a tough opposition from Zulfadli Zulkiffli at the first men’s singles match. The 2014 Dubai BWF Superseries Finals women’s singles champion Tai Tzu Ying chalked up yet another win for Muar City when she whitewashed Thinaah M 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 in just 17 minutes to put Muar City ahead with 6-1.

Tan Wee Kiong-Teo Kok Siang, and Chan Peng Soon-Chow Mei Kuan wasted little time by dominating their opponents in the first men’s doubles and mixed doubles matches respectively to hold Muar City at a comfortable lead of 12-1 over Bangsar Hawks in overall score.

In the second men’s singles match, Tan Chun Seang was struggling against Loh Kean Yew of Bangsar Hawk but eventually emerged unscathed with 11-9, 11-9,11-10 victory.

Reigning Malaysian men’s doubles champion Mak Hee Chun/Tan Bin Shen of Muar City survived a nerve-shredding battle before emerging victorious 11-9, 9-11, 10-11, 11-6, 11-8 over Aaron Chia Teng Fong/Sathiestharan Ramachandran in the second men’s doubles match.

In another tie what was played late Sunday afternoon, world number 8 Kenichi Tago of Japan spearheaded Petaling BC to 12-7 triumph over Serdang BC.
