Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s second men’s singles Chong Wei Feng who faltered in the third round of Malaysia Masters last week is hoping for a good showing at the India Masters that begins on Tuesday, Jan 21.
Chong Wei Feng who pulled a thigh muscle, flew back to Kuala Lumpur to get immediate treatment after he lost to compatriot Mohd Arif Abdul Latif last Friday.
“I am not yet fully recovered, but in order to maintain my world ranking, I have to play in India Masters,” said the world number 31 Chong Wei Feng.
“If I skip the India Masters, I’ll see my ranking to drop out of top 40,” added Wei Feng.
Malaysia also fielded mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing in India Masters. However, Malaysia doubles head coach Jeremy Gan will mix up that combination and try to pair Chan Peng Soon with his longtime partner Goh Liu Ying. Goh Liu Ying who has recovered from her long-standing knee injury problems is now ready to play a full part to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Chan/Goh will be reunited in Swiss Open that starts on March 10, followed by Polish Open in March 18, and Orleans International Challenge that will be held in France from March 26 to 29.
