It has been a decade since Gail Emms lifted the YONEX All England Badminton Championship doubles crown and 11 years since she claimed a silver medal at the Athens Olympic Games. But having witnessed the form and progression of pairing Chris and Gabby Adcock – they claimed Commonwealth Games gold last year in Glasgow – Emms is convinced the golden years are set to return to English badminton.
Chris and Gabby Adcock are ranked No.6 in the world presently, but throughout their career to date they have been compared and measured against Emms and her long-standing partner Nathan Robertson.
But having witnessed the pair’s efforts in Glasgow; Emms is convinced Chris and Gabby are ready to take the next step and challenge at March’s Yonex All England – the first BWF Super series Premier event of 2015, and one of the major’s of the sport – before wreaking havoc at next year’s Rio Olympic Games.
“I’d love to say we have a great chance at the Olympics in all five events but we haven’t unfortunately,” Emms said.
“We’ve got a chance in one with the mixed doubles and Chris and Gabby Adcock. It is a pity but we can only do what we can. We don’t have 100 million people playing badminton. We are Great Britain so if Chris and Gabby are our only hope then let’s get behind them. Its 10 years since I won at the All England and I think it would be amazing if they could mark that with a win.
“They are very good and are comfortably within the top 10 and can make a real impact on any level. There are three mixed doubles pairs who are very good and that’s the problem. “I played last year in the nationals and then again this year and those two tournaments were the first time I’d played competitively since I retired,” she added.“In mixed doubles there will always be an opportunity to because there will be a guy who might not have a partner.
“Getting to the quarters was great especially considering the lack of training. I know with practice I could get better but I’m past that now and I’m a mum of two so when do I have time to train?
“It’s nice to leave the intensity behind and be able to be satisfied with what you have done and be able to keep your emotions in check and enjoy it.
“When you’re playing at the top level it’s really easy to forget that enjoyment.
“I don’t know how many athletes have felt like this but there were a lot of times when I didn’t enjoy badminton at all.”
“In-play” Mathematics does not lie!
Now that you have — it is hoped — understood and absorbed the generalities of exchange betting and the peculiarities of tennis scoring, it is time to explain the details of how you can win Tennis betting odds William Hill. Earlier it was stated that the secret to winning at tennis betting is to be both a “backer” and a “layer”, but at different points during the event, placing bets at different times during the event as fortunes change and the odds swing in your favor. This can be done with both “in-play” betting and “pre-event” betting.
