Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong off to a good start at ´White Nights 2015´

Gatchina: Former world No. 1 men’s pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong was off to good start at the ´White Nights 2015´ International Challenge on Thursday as they’re looking to rejuvenate their careers. The Malaysian duo moved into the second round with a straight-sets 21-9, 21-6 win over Andrei Goncharenko/Alexandr Kozyrev of Russia. They will take on another Russian pair Vladimir Rusin/Liya Zdanov on Friday.Koo Kien Keat (right) and Tan Boon Heong continue to impress on their comeback.

The ´White Nights 2015´ International Challenge tournament was organized by the National Badminton Federation of Russia in cooperation with the Badminton Federation of Leningrad region, held from 1-5 July 2015 in Sporthall Arena, Gatchina.

Another Malaysia’s independent men’s doubles duo,  Hoon Thien How/Lim Khim Wah looked relaxed and pumped up when they sent Russian pair Dmitrii Klimenko/Mikhail Lavrikov packing 21-13, 21-12 in the first round of ‘White Nights 2015´ International Challenge. Hoon/Lim progressed straight to the quarter-finals after their second round opponents Rüdiger Gnedt/Wolfgang Gnedt of Austria withdrew from the tournament.

Two independent men’s singles shuttlers of Malaysia, Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and Tan Chun Seang both made it through on day one at Gatchina, as Arif picked up a victory over Tanel Namm of Estonia 21-6, 21-11 in the morning, and strolled into the third round with a 21-12, 21-13 victory over Wolfgang Gnedt of Austria in the evening. Meanwhile, Tan Chun Seang had little trouble in the first round as he beat Adrian Dziolko of Poland 21-11, 21-14. Chun Seang then turned on the style in his second match later that day as he dispatched of third seed Petr Koukal of Czech Republic 21-18, 21-12 to book his place in the third round of ‘White Nights 2015’.
