Kuala Lumpur: After they knocked off second seeds Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England en route to winning the ´White Nights 2015´ International Challenge men’s doubles title on Sunday, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong a.k.a the diamond pair from Malaysia are expected to move up 20 positions to hit approximately No.70 in this week’s Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong officially announced their comebacks on April 13, 2015, after signing a two-year deal with a Malaysian company that worth RM 2 million. The pair’s current total BWF rankings points were accrued from their performances in the following 3 tournaments – when they made it to last 16 of last year’s Copenhagen World Championships (4,600 points), quarter-finals of the 2015 Australian Open (5,040 points), and earned 4000 points for their triumphs at the 2015 Sri Lanka International Challenge. Points allocated from tournaments above brought their tally to 13,840 points, which placed them at world No. 93 temporarily.
The diamond pair was awarded another 4,000 points after clinching their second career title of 2015 at the ´White Nights 2015´ International Challenge two days ago. The duo is projected to climb 20 spots to be place around world No. 70 when the new BWF rankings are released this Thursday. The boost in their world rankings would make them the second men’s doubles pair of Malaysia, surpassing world No. 75 Jagdish Singh/Roni Ran Wee Long.
Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong achieved World No. 19 in the BWF released last Thursday (July 2, 2015), and are currently the highest-ranked men’s doubles pair from Malaysia.
