Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have devised a six-week shuttler exchange program with Denmark aimed to provide numerous opportunities to facilitate, to guide, and to develop badminton players from both countries.
Women’s singles shuttlers Lim Chiew Sien and Lim Yin Fun are up for the first batch of athletes send out to Denmark in the exchange program. The girls will have the opportunity to train at the Aarhus Badminton Club in Denmark, and will play in two tournaments namely the Belgian International (Sept 9 to Sept 12) and the Polish International (Sept 17 to Sept 20) during their six-week stint in Europe.
BAM’s technical director Morten Frost hoped the program could help build shuttlers into a well-rounded athlete by developing their knowledge and leadership for life.
“The shuttlers will stay with foster families in Denmark. We will closely monitor the player’s improvement in both tactical and mental skills,” said Frost.
“Besides competing in the Belgian and Polish Internationals, Chiew Sien and Yin Fun will participate in the Danish League and the national circuit,” added Frost.
“The Danish club will send their players to Malaysia in December.”
Frost also revealed that BAM will send one women’s doubles pair to Hungary in November and January.
Upon completion of the Belgian and Polish Internationals, men’s singles shuttlers Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Goh Soon Huat will join Chiew Sien and Yin Fun in Aarhus.
Meanwhile, China coach Zhou Yang has reportedly resigned as coach for Form One students at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS). Zhou was the fifth BJSS coach to leave the organization after four other BJSS coaches – Zhou Kejian, Chong Kien Ling, Chin Tze Seong and Poh Chai Boon – left BAM in January.
