Mexico City: Although he is not young anymore, 59-year-old Mathew Fogarty of USA who was born in October 30, 1956, has put on an admirable efforts together with his partner Bjorn Seguin in the Mexico City GP men’s doubles second round match against No. 2 seeds Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong from Malaysia on Thursday.Mathew Fogarty's passion for badminton really energized everyone around him. The USA pair actually had an 11-6 in the first set before Goh/Tan reeled off 10 straight points to clinch the first set 21-15. The second set turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Malaysian pair swatting away the USA pair 21-11 to set up a clash with Michael Fuchs/Johannes Schoettler from Germany in the quarter-finals.

In men’s singles, No. 7 seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia fought from one set down to see off Osleni Guerrero of Cuba 17-21, 21-7, 21-10. Zulkiffli will face No. 2 seed Sho Sasaki of Japan on Friday.

Women’s doubles top seeds Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei from Malaysia got a better of Yaqueline Duarte/Adelina Quiñones from Mexico to win their women’s doubles second round match 21-3, 21-6. Hoo/Woon will battle Heather Olver/Lauren Smith for a spot in the semi-final.

Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying beat Puavaranukroh Dechapol/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 23-21, 21-15 in the mixed doubles match and will play Kenta Kazuno/Ayane Kurihara of Japan to book their semi-final berth at the Mexico City GP.
