Kuala Lumpur: Chong Wei Feng brought the audience to life on Thursday when he produced some fireworks to fight back from two sets down before eventually winning in five sets against Thomi Azizan Mahbub of Bangsar Hawks BC.
The determined Chong Wei Feng fought off a tenacious fightback attempt by Thomi Azizan Mahbub’s to seal the tie for Kepong BC at 11-9 over Bangsar Hawks after his 7-11, 11-7, 10-11, 11-4, 11-4 victory in the second men’s singles match.
Panji Akbar Sudrajat had given Kepong a good start, playing sublimely to thrash Wan Mas Ami Bin Wan Abu Bakar Sidik 3-1 in just 24 minutes before Tee Jing Yee gave Kepong another 3 points for her win in the women’s singles event.
After being initially outclassed and falling in the first two matches, Bangsar Hawks dug deep, breaking Kepong’s momentum when Irfan Fadhilah/Weni Anggraini and Agrippina Primarahmanto Putera/Muhammad Amzzar Bin Zainuddin clinched the mixed doubles and men’s doubles events respectively to bring the tie right down to the wire with 7-8.
Thomi Azizan Mahbub of Bangsar Hawks would require to defeat Chong Wei Feng 3-0 in the second men’s singles match in order to give Bangsar Hawks a comeback from behind win; while Chong Wei Feng only needed to take at least 1 set away from to Mahbub to level the tie, in which Chong eventually took the match 3-2.
Later Thursday, Petaling Jaya BC concluded their 10th round of Malaysia Purple League tournament by trashing Serdang BC 15-4.
In a tie that was held yesterday, Petaling BC dashed Nusajaya’s hopes of moving to the No. 8 spot in the league after Iskandar Zulkarnian stifled Nusajaya’s surge in momentum, and took victory over Tam Chun Hei in four sets as Petaling BC toppped Nusajaya 10-9.
The final round of Malaysia Purple League will begin on Friday. Only the top 8 teams in Purple League are eligible for the Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge that will be held from Jan 12th to Jan 17th, 2016.
