Bangkok: China, the team that beat Malaysia in the quarter-finals, and Japan in the semi-finals, proved too much for Korea as the defending champions clinched Asia Junior mixed team championships title with the 3-1 final win on Tuesday.
He Jiting/Du Yue led the Chinese’s charges in the mixed doubles, kicking off the tie with a 21-17, 21-19 straight sets victory over Kim Won Ho/Lee Yu Rim in 36 minutes.
China’s Sun Feixiang then put his team ahead with a 2-0 advantage after seeing off Byun Jung Soo of Korea 21-8, 21-13.
However, China met some challenges in the men’s doubles when Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong went down to Kang Min Hyuk/Kim Won Ho of Korea in a hard fought 3-sets thriller, losing 22-24, 21-12, 19-21 in 60 minutes.
Chinese players hugged and applauded as Chen Yufei of China sealed the victory for China by defeating Kim Hyang Im 21-13, 21-15.
The Asian Junior individual events will start on Wednesday, with Malaysia’s World Junior Champion Goh Jin Wei the overwhelming favorite to win the women’s singles title.
