Bilbao: Defending champions China successfully defended their World Junior Mixed Team Champion by defeating Malaysia 3-0 at the Bilbao Arena in Bilbao, Spain on Sunday.
China kicked off the final with mixed doubles pair He Jiting and Du Yue who also played at last year’s World Junior mixed team final. He/Du survived a stern examination by Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie/Thinaah to win the first point for their team with a 17-21, 21-13, 21-12 victory.
The boys’ singles match saw Sun Feixiang eased past Leong Jun Hao of Malaysia 21-15, 21-13 to put China in a 2-0 lead.
The 2015 World girls’ singles champion Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia showed incredible resilience to force a decider against Chen Yufei of China before losing the 70 minutes match 20-22, 21-14, 8-21 to let China sealed the mixed team title.
China has won 11 out of the 14 times since the first mixed team event or so called “Suhandinata Cup” was held in year 2000. Korea (2006, 2013) and Malaysia (2011) were the only two countries which have taken Suhandinata Cup away from China.
Here are the top 3 results for the 2016 World Junior Mixed Team Championships:
China (Gold)
Malaysia (Silver)
Japan (Bronze)
Thailand (Bronze)
