Cyber Jaya: Although Ampang Jaya BC’s Lee Cheuk Yiu lost the second men’s singles match against Lee Hyun Il of Muar City with 1-3, but due to Lee Cheuk Yiu was able to steal one set from Lee Hyun Il, he managed to fire Ampang Jaya BC to a 10-9 victory on Monday.
In the tie between Muar City and Ampang Jaya that was held at the Gem in Mall, Cyberjaya, former World Junior Champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Muar City got off to a good start by registering a 2-1 win against Ampang Jaya BC’s Cheam June Wei when the match was halted after 30-minute maximum duration has ran out.
The Purple League has introduced a new rule in the 2016/2017 season where each match is only allowed to last for 30 minutes. Whoever that leads at the end of the duration would be the winner.
Ho Yen Mei then gave Ampang Jaya BC a 4-3 overall lead after she was ahead over Sonia Cheah with 11-4, 6-11, 11-8, 7-6 when the 30 minutes limit was reached.
Ampang Jaya continued to take the lead when Lukhi Nugroho/Muhammad Syawal saw off Teo Ee Yi/Teo Kok Siang of Muar City 3-1 in the men’s doubles match.
The mixed doubles match between Chan Peng Soon/Lee Meng Yean and Ririn Amelia/Terry Hee Yong Kai came to a draw when the match was levelled at 10-11, 5-11, 11-9, 8-5 in 30 minutes before Lee Cheuk Yiu luckily pulled Ampang Jaya away with a close victory.
Meanwhile, in other tie that was held on Monday, Petaling Jaya BC held off Klang City BC 13-6 to pick up their second win of the 2016/2017 season.
