Puchong United beat Bangsar Hawks, top Purple League

Cyberjaya: Puchong United earned a 13-5 victory over Bangsar Hawks in the 2016/2017 Purple League tie on Saturday at Gem in Mall, Cyberjaya that sent them to the top of Purple League rankings.Chong Wei Feng still loves the game. (photo: Purple League)

Taking nothing away from their Bangsar Hawks BC opponents, Chong Wei Feng of Puchong United was off to strong start to defeat Wan Chia Hsin of Bangsar Hawks in the opening men’s singles contest 6-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-4.

Bangsar Hawks’ Lee Ying Ying kept her cool in the women’s singles match to complete an 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 6-4 victory over Sayaka Takahashi in levelling the overall score with 4-4.

However, thereon it appeared to be a road of victories for the Puchong United as they rolled to three consecutive wins, including men’s doubles, mixed doubles, and last men’s singles match to easily bag the contest with 13-5.

After Saturday’s victory, Puchong United has overtaken Petaling Jaya BC for No. 1 spot in the Purple League.

The tie between Ampang Jaya BC and Serdang BC that was also held on Saturday went all the way to the deciding last men’s singles match before Lee Cheuk Yiu of Ampang Jaya BC sealed the 11-9 win for his team by beating Lee Zii Jia 3-1.

Despite having players such as Goh Soon Huat, Lai Pei Jing/Tan Kian Meng, and Wei Nan, BU Dragons BC faced their first loss of the season against the Kepong BC, losing 7-10.
