Lucknow: The No. 1 men’s doubles pair in the tournament Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen was handed a particularly interesting quarter final at the Syed Modi International Grand Prix badminton championships in Lucknow on Friday. The Danish pair eventually notched up a victory against the No. 5 seeds Hendra Setiawan/Tan Boon Heong of Indonesia and Malaysia.
The first set between these 2 pairs proved a nail-biter, when both pairs yielded multiple deuces and game-point opportunities before Hendra Setiawan/Tan Boon Heong won the first game with 27-25.
But the Indonesia/Malaysia combo was clearly struggling in the second set while the Danish pair started to attack Tan Boon Heong due to his slow movement. Boe/Mogensen eventually won the second set easily with 21-10.
The decider was pretty much the same as the second set, where Setiawan/Tan were making a lot of unforced errors, allowing the Denmark pair to quickly seal the victory with 21-11.
Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen will play No. 4 seeds Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia in the semi-finals.
Women’s doubles No. 3 seeds Lim Yin Loo/Yap Cheng Wen became the only Malaysian shuttlers to advance to the semi-finals after beating Sruthi K.P/Haritha Manazhiyil Harinarayanan of India 21-17, 21-9.
