Hanoi: Unseeded Malaysian women’s doubles pair of Tee Jing Yi/Joyce Choong continued to impress as they stormed into the final of the $20,000 Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi, Vietnam on Saturday.
The Malaysian duo blew away No. 3 seeds Ririn Amelia/Cheong Anna Ching Yik from Indonesia and Malaysia with a stunning performance of fearless badminton, winning 21-13, 21-15 in 30 minutes.
Tee/Choong will meet another unseeded pair Erina Honda/Nozomi Shimizu of Japan in the final.
Malaysia’s independent men’s doubles pair Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Jagdish Singh however fizzled out after early fight against No. 5 seeds Trawut Potieng/Nanthakarn Yordphaisong of Thailand to bow out of the tournament 21-18, 17-21, 18-21 in 50 minutes.
Vietnam’s top shuttlers and husband/wife badminton players – Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang also advanced to the men’s singles and women’s singles finals respectively. Nguyen will play No. 2 seed Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand on Sunday while Vu will battle No. 2 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the final.
