NEW DELHI: South Korea’s world number one An Se Young once again proved why she is the most dominant force in women’s singles badminton, successfully defending her title at the 2026 India Open and capturing her second Super 750 crown of the season.

The top seed required just 43 minutes in the final to defeat China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-13, 21-11, extending her remarkable unbeaten run on the international circuit to 30 consecutive matches.

The victory marked An Se Young’s 34th career BWF World Tour title (excluding Super 100 events), pushing her further ahead as the most successful women’s singles player in tour history.

Speaking after the match, An Se Young acknowledged the challenge of the final, noting that she remained focused on taking the initiative and staying aggressive throughout the contest.

“I knew it would be a tough match,” she said. “I kept reminding myself to attack and to focus on what I needed to do, without letting mistakes affect me. The past two weeks were very tiring, but winning like this makes me extremely happy.”

When asked what it would take for opponents to overcome her, An Se Young responded candidly: “I always give everything to avoid losing. Every player who faces me will be fully prepared and determined not to lose, and that’s exactly what a professional athlete should do.”

With her winning streak now closing in on the legendary 31-match run set by Tai Tzu Ying in 2018, attention is firmly on whether An Se Young can write another chapter of badminton history in the coming tournaments.

In women’s doubles, China’s world number one pairing Liu Sheng Shu–Tan Ning continued their strong start to the new season by lifting the India Open title.

The Chinese duo defeated Japan’s experienced combination of Yuki Fukushima–Mayu Matsumoto 21-11, 21-18 in a 57-minute final, securing their second consecutive title after last week’s Malaysia Open triumph.

Men’s singles honours went to Taiwan’s Lin Chun-Yi, who produced a commanding performance in the final to defeat Indonesia’s star Jonatan Christie 21-10, 21-18.

The title marked Lin’s first Super 750 victory and will see him climb to world number 11, narrowing the gap to the top 10. The result also triggered minor shifts among the elite men’s singles rankings.

In men’s doubles, China’s fifth-seeded pair Liang Wei Keng–Wang Chang claimed their second India Open title after battling past Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa–Kyohei Yamashita in three games, winning 17-21, 25-23, 21-16.

The mixed doubles title was secured by Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh–Supissara Paewsampran, who edged Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen–Alexandra Bøje 19-21, 25-23, 21-18 in a thrilling final.

With champions crowned across all five disciplines, the 2026 India Open concluded with standout performances and further confirmation of the sport’s growing global depth.
