Hong Kong: As the 2025 Hong Kong Open approaches, Indonesia’s badminton team is locked and loaded with a 12-player roster set to compete in the BWF World Tour Super 500 event, taking place from September 9–12 at Hong Kong Coliseum, Kowloon.
At the forefront is Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who will lead Indonesia’s charge in the men’s singles alongside Alwi Farhan and Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah.
In the men’s doubles, the national team will rely on the explosive pair of Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana and the solid duo Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. Notably, the previously registered pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto has withdrawn, with Fajar now set to reunite with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri for the upcoming China Masters (Super 750) and Korea Open (Super 500) later in September.
Spotlight on Women’s Doubles: New Pairings and a Comeback
A major storyline this year is Indonesia’s strategic shift in the women’s doubles. Four dynamic pairings will represent the nation:
-
Lanny Tria Mayasari / Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi
-
Rachel Allessya Rose / Febi Setianingrum
-
Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari
-
The long-awaited return of Apriyani Rahayu / Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti
Apriyani and Fadia were the last Indonesians to taste victory in Hong Kong, having clinched the women’s doubles title in 2023.
Mixed Doubles: Indonesia Fields 3 Competitive Pairs
In the mixed doubles, Indonesia will send three promising teams:
-
Jafar Hifdayatullah / Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu
-
Amri Syahnawi / Nita Violina Marwah
-
Adnan Maulana / Indah Cahya Sari Jamil
These duos are part of Indonesia’s broader plan to cultivate depth and international competitiveness across categories.
Historical Performance and Hopes for 2025
The Hong Kong Open 2025 marks the tournament’s 35th edition. Historically, Indonesia ranks as the third-most successful nation at this event, trailing only China (69 titles) and South Korea (32 titles). Indonesia boasts 23 titles, but left empty-handed in 2024.
The last championship wins came in 2023, with Jonatan Christie taking the men’s singles title and Apriyani/Fadia seizing gold in the women’s doubles.
Now, all eyes are on whether Ginting, the returning women’s pairs, or the new mixed teams can end the title drought and bring home glory once again.
