Vantaa, Finland – Malaysia enjoyed a successful day at the 2025 Arctic Open Super 500 as three of its top doubles pairs advanced to the quarter-finals across the men’s, women’s, and mixed categories.
In the men’s doubles draw, former world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik bounced back after dropping the first game to defeat fellow Malaysians Low Hang Yee/Ng Eng Cheong 15-21, 21-14, 21-14. The duo showed mental resilience and improved net control in the second and third games to seal the win.

They will now face Taiwan’s Liu Kuang Heng/Yang Po Han for a spot in the semifinals.
Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal also delivered an impressive performance, rallying from a set down to beat France’s Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi 12-21, 21-10, 21-16. They will face Denmark’s 3rd seeds Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the next round.
Astrup and Rasmussen themselves had to survive a three-game thriller against another Malaysian pair, Junaidi Arif/Yap Roy King, winning 21-13, 12-21, 21-13. This marked the fourth meeting between the two duos, with the Danes leading 3-1 in the head-to-head series.
🇲🇾 Pearly/Thinaah Ease into Women’s Doubles Quarter-Finals
World No. 2 Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan continued their strong run in Finland by defeating Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari in just 38 minutes. The Malaysian duo won 21-15, 21-13 to register their third consecutive victory over the Indonesian pair.
Next, they will face France’s Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante, who caused an upset by eliminating the 8th-seeded Taiwanese pair Hsu Yin-Hui/Lin Jhih Yun in three games.
Notably, top-seeded Chinese pair Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning withdrew from the tournament, giving Hsu Ya Ching/Sung Yu-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei a free pass into the quarter-finals.
👫 Goh/Lai Set for Mixed Doubles Quarter-Final Showdown
In mixed doubles, Malaysia’s 5th seeds Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai will take on Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand in what promises to be a highly competitive quarter-final encounter.
