Kuala Lumpur: BAM is eagerly anticipating the signal from the Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) to determine Ng Tze Yong’s eligibility for participation in three upcoming European tournaments: the French Open, All England, and Spanish Masters.
Rexy Mainaky, the Coaching Director of the Academy Badminton of Malaysia (ABM), stated that the names of the country’s male individual players for the mentioned tournaments have not yet been released. Despite being the 15th ranked player globally, Ng Tze Yong withdrew only from the German Open scheduled for next week.
“After today’s discussion, Tze Yong’s potential involvement in the French Open, All-England, and Spanish Masters remains pending, awaiting the medical report from ISN before any decisions are finalized,” remarked Mainaky.
He highlighted Ng Tze Yong’s challenges during the Badminton Asia Team Championships, expressing skepticism about his participation in the high-stakes Super 750 and 1000 competitions against top-notch global players.
“With the qualifying period for the 2024 Paris Olympics ending in late April, time is a crucial factor for Tze Yong. We are dependent on the medical report from ISN to ascertain his fitness for these events,” emphasized Mainaky.
Addressing concerns about Ng Tze Yong’s injury, Mainaky dismissed any connection to ABM’s rigorous training regime and clarified that Ng Tze Yong had not undergone the usual six hours of daily training recently due to a forced break since the Malaysia Open.
“I hope the medical report will provide assurance of his well-being, making it easier for us to plan and decide,” added Mainaky.
Highlighting Ng Tze Yong’s past achievements in the All-England and French Open, Mainaky emphasized the potential impact on ranking points and Olympic qualification if he misses the upcoming tournaments.
BAM’s medical director, Ooi Yu Hang, disclosed ISN’s recommendation for a 10-day monitoring period following an injection to alleviate the pain related to Ng Tze Yong’s current spine injury. Stressing the distinction from his previous Malaysia Open injury, Ooi outlined the plan for Ng to focus on recovery, muscle strengthening, and light training.
