Bahrain: Malaysia’s para badminton icon Cheah Liek Hou once again proved why he remains one of the sport’s greatest champions.

Competing at the 2026 BWF Para Badminton World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, Liek Hou successfully defended his men’s singles SU5 (physical impairment) crown, securing the ninth world title of his illustrious career.

The final, held at Isa Sports City, saw Liek Hou deliver a commanding performance against Taiwan’s Fang Jen-Yu. He wrapped up the match 21-6, 21-11 in just 28 minutes, leaving little doubt about his dominance in the SU5 category.

Nine-Time World Champion in SU5

With this latest triumph, Cheah Liek Hou adds to an extraordinary collection of world titles previously won in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2022, and 2024.

Doubles Glory with Mohamad Faris Ahmad Azri

Cheah Liek Hou’s golden run in Bahrain did not end with singles success. Teaming up with Mohamad Faris Ahmad Azri, he captured the men’s doubles SU5 world title as well.

The Malaysian pair overcame Taiwan’s second-seeded duo Fang Jen Yu–Pu Gui Yu in the final, sealing a 23-21, 21-13 victory in 35 minutes.

The win marked Liek Hou’s seventh men’s doubles SU5 world crown, adding to titles secured in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2024.
