Down 14-20 in the first set, the Malaysians mounted an incredible surge, scoring eight consecutive points to steal the game and shift the momentum entirely in their favor. Riding on that confidence, they controlled the second set to seal the victory in straight games.
“We started slow, but I’m proud of how we fought back,” said Tang Jie in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
“The wind made things tricky,” added Ee Wei, who explained their initial difficulties with shuttle control.
The win sets them up for a quarterfinal clash against another Chinese duo, Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui, ranked ninth in the world.
Despite not winning any titles yet this season, Chen-Toh have consistently reached the semifinals at major tournaments like the Malaysia Open, India Open, Indonesia Open, and Japan Open. This momentum gives them renewed belief in ending their title drought at a BWF Super 1000 event.
