
Chengdu: Two badminton powerhouses, China and Indonesia, will face off against each other in both Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals that will be held in Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre, Chengdu, China on Sunday.

Team China concluded the semifinal of the 2024 Uber Cup on Saturday with a decisive victory by defeating Team Japan 3-0, smoothly advancing to the finals. Another Uber Cup semifinal tie between Indonesia and Korea was fought down to the wire before Indonesia came out on top with a 3-2 victory.
In Saturday’s Thomas Cup semifinal tie between Malaysia and China, the Malaysia team Malaysia managed to secure a point through Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik. Malaysia’s first singles player, Lee Zii Jia, lost in straight sets to Shi Yuqi 21-19, 21-5, followed by the first doubles pair Soh Wooi Yik/Aaron Chia defeating Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang 15-21, 21-12, 21-17, leveling the score at 1-1. However, Malaysia’s second singles player, Leong Jun Hao, fell to Li Shifeng 17-21, 10-21, and the crucial match between Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin against He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu ended in defeat 21-18, 19-21, 12-21 after a fierce three-game battle. Ultimately, Malaysia lost 1-3 to China, missing the chance to enter the finals.
In another Thomas Cup semifinal, the Indonesian Thomas Cup team advanced to the final after silencing Taiwan with a score of 3-0. Men’s singles player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting secured Indonesia’s first point by beating Taiwan’s top seed, Chou Tien Chen, with scores of 21-18, 21-19 in 51 minutes.
