Beijing — More shocking revelations have emerged surrounding China’s men’s doubles star He Jiting, as his ex-girlfriend has now accused him of betting on matches during the BWF World Championships, adding to earlier claims of gambling, cheating, and verbally abusing teammates and coaches.

He Jiting, 27, currently ranked World No. 5 in men’s doubles, was once hailed as a rising star in Chinese badminton. He joined the Fujian team in 2008, the national youth team in 2014, and the senior squad in 2016. His accolades include a Sudirman Cup gold in 2021, a Super 300 Spanish Masters title in 2023, and most recently, winning the men’s doubles title at the 2024 Singapore Open alongside Ren Xiang Yu.

However, his career has taken a drastic turn following bombshell exposés from his ex-girlfriend. Earlier this week, she posted voice notes and chat logs showing He’s involvement in gambling, match-fixing, infidelity, and frequent use of derogatory language toward teammates and coaches.

In a new post last night, she further claimed that He bet on matches during the World Championships and lost RMB 10,000. According to the chat records, He allegedly lost RMB 5,000 in December 2022, RMB 20,000 in March 2023, and another RMB 10,000 during the World Championships in April.

“He took international competitions as a betting game and treated national honors like a cash machine,” she wrote. “He’s a grown man and must take responsibility for his actions. Stop hiding and face the consequences like a real man. Apologize to the people you’ve hurt.”

Notably, He was previously suspended for three months in 2022 (with a two-year probation) for negative behavior during the Fuzhou China Open. Now, with evidence of gambling and possible match-fixing, his future in the sport is under serious threat. China’s General Administration of Sport has a strict zero-tolerance policy for gambling, and the National Team Code of Conduct clearly states that violations such as gambling, drug use, or damaging team unity may result in immediate expulsion from the national team.

To make matters worse, his former mixed doubles partner, Li Yijing, has become an unfortunate collateral victim. Despite achieving success with Luo Xumin in 2024—winning the German and China Open women’s doubles titles—Li has been dragged into the public spotlight due to her past partnership with He. Misguided fans have left inappropriate comments on her social media, affecting her training and mental focus.

As of now, neither He Jiting nor the Chinese Badminton Association has issued an official response. However, the scandal has drawn widespread attention from fans, media, and the sporting community, all demanding a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

He Jiting who was originally scheduled to compete in the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships from April 8 to 13 in Ningbo, Zhejiang, He was noticeably absent from the national team delegation heading to the airport — raising serious doubts about whether he will participate as planned.

Badminton news outlets and the public are watching closely, hoping for a transparent outcome and for innocent athletes like Li Yijing to return to their professional routines without further unwarranted scrutiny.
