Suwon, South Korea – Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie is back in the spotlight after booking his place in the 2025 Korea Open men’s singles final, ending an 18-month title drought in the BWF World Tour.

Semifinal Showdown: Experience vs. Youth

The fourth-seeded Indonesian faced fellow countryman Alwi Farhan, the 19-year-old former World Junior Champion, in an exciting all-Indonesian semifinal on Saturday. It was the first-ever meeting between the two players.

Farhan came out swinging, taking the first game 21–18 with impressive speed and aggressive smashes. However, Christie, known for his grit and experience, rallied back to win the next two games 21–14, 21–15, sealing a hard-fought 2–1 comeback victory.

Final Opponent: Anders Antonsen

Christie will now face World No. 2 Anders Antonsen of Denmark, who battled through a three-game thriller against Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen. Antonsen dropped the first game 22–24 but came back strong with 21–19, 21–10 victories to reach his next BWF final.

The match extends Antonsen’s head-to-head win streak over Chou to 3 consecutive victories, bringing their career record to 7–8, narrowing the gap between the two.

Men’s Doubles: Korea and Indonesia Shine

In men’s doubles, top-seeded Korean pair Kim Won Ho / Seo Seung Jae maintained their unbeaten record against Japan’s Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi, winning 21–16, 21–12. It’s their fifth consecutive win against the Japanese duo and their 9th World Tour final since joining forces.

Since winning the World Championships in Paris this August, the Korean duo has not lost a match, currently riding a 14-match win streak.

They’ll face Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri of Indonesia in the final. The Indonesian pair, ranked World No. 36, defeated Taiwan’s No. 5 seeds Lee Jhe-Huei / Yang Po-Hsuan 21–19, 21–16, continuing their impressive run since reuniting at the Japan Open in July.

The stage is now set for a blockbuster men’s singles final between Jonatan Christie and Anders Antonsen, while Korean and Indonesian pairs battle for men’s doubles supremacy. With history, momentum, and redemption on the line, all eyes are on Suwon for the Korea Open 2025 finals.
