Xiamen, April 29 – Malaysia’s young badminton talent, Justin Hoh, marked his Sudirman Cup debut with a powerful performance, helping the national team secure a spot in the 2025 quarterfinals.
The 20-year-old men’s singles player, ranked No. 46 in the world, made his first appearance in the prestigious mixed team tournament during Malaysia’s Group C tie against Australia. Justin confidently defeated Shrey Dhand 21-9, 21-15 in just 36 minutes at the Fenghuang Gymnasium.
“I was more excited than nervous. This is a major tournament, and I was proud to contribute a point for Malaysia,” said Justin to the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Although he cruised through the first set, Justin admitted to facing some challenges in the second, citing windy conditions and court drift as factors. “It wasn’t easy. The drift affected my rhythm, but my coach and I discussed tactical adjustments. I focused on reducing errors and speeding up my play,” he added.
Having missed the opener against France, Justin was eager to make an impact when given the opportunity. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue improving as Malaysia prepares for a high-stakes showdown with Japan.
