Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 21: Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei celebrated his 44th birthday on Wednesday with a heartfelt message of gratitude, saying that family, good health and watching his children grow up now mean more to him than the achievements that once defined his life on the badminton court.

The former world No. 1 shared his reflections on social media, thanking fans, friends and supporters for the birthday wishes and encouragement he has received over the years.

Although another year has passed, Lee said he still carries the spirit of the young badminton player who once gave everything in pursuit of his dreams.

Lee Chong Wei Celebrates 44th Birthday With Gratitude

For much of his life, Lee Chong Wei’s priorities revolved around training, international tournaments and representing Malaysia at the highest level of badminton.

Now, seven years after announcing his retirement in 2019, the three-time Olympic silver medalist says his greatest happiness comes from simpler moments.

Seeing his children grow up happily, knowing that his family and friends are healthy, and occasionally returning to the badminton court for enjoyment have become some of the things he values most.

His birthday message reflected that change in perspective, from an athlete whose days were shaped by competition to a husband and father who increasingly appreciates time with loved ones.

Family and Good Health Matter Most to Lee Chong Wei

Lee spoke warmly about the importance of family, describing the happiness he finds in watching his children grow and enjoying everyday life with those closest to him.

The Malaysian badminton great is married to former national women’s singles player Wong Mew Choo, and the couple have three sons.

During his playing career, Lee spent much of the year traveling between tournaments, training camps and major championships.

Retirement has given him more opportunities to experience family life away from the demands of professional competition.

His latest birthday reflections suggest that while his passion for badminton remains, his definition of happiness has evolved.

Lee Chong Wei Thanks Badminton Fans for Years of Support

Lee also expressed appreciation for the countless birthday messages he received from supporters.

He acknowledged that he could not personally respond to every greeting but wanted fans to know that their kindness had not gone unnoticed.

In both Chinese and English, Lee conveyed his gratitude and extended his own wishes for good health, happiness and success to everyone who has supported him.

He encouraged people to continue enjoying life, pursuing their goals and moving forward with determination.

His message ended with a simple wish: May life continue to be kind to all of us.
