KUALA LUMPUR: In the latest badminton news, Malaysian legend Lee Chong Wei has urged the nation’s badminton fraternity to embrace the spirit of the Year of the Horse as the national squad prepares for the upcoming Thomas Cup.Through a message shared on his official Facebook page, the former world No. 1 extended Chinese New Year wishes to players, coaches, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) staff, sponsors, volunteers and fans — calling for renewed unity and determination as Malaysia looks to challenge the world’s elite in badminton.

“Speed, Strength and Unstoppable Spirit”

Lee expressed his hope that the new year would bring speed, resilience and an unbreakable fighting spirit to Malaysia’s badminton community.

“I would like to wish everyone in the Malaysian badminton family a Happy Chinese New Year. May this year be filled with speed, strength and unstoppable spirit,” he said.

Now serving as chairman of BAM’s Performance Committee, Lee highlighted that the horse symbolizes endurance, courage and determination — qualities essential in modern badminton.

“In badminton, we need quick movement, a strong heart and the mentality to never give up. That is what the horse represents,” he added.

From Young Talents to Senior Leaders

Lee acknowledged that every player is on a different journey — from rising juniors chasing their first podium finish to experienced campaigners carrying national expectations on the global stage.

“Whether you are preparing for a tournament, recovering from injury, or chasing your first major title, I hope this year brings the breakthrough you’ve been working for,” he said.

He also paid tribute to parents and behind-the-scenes contributors who continue to fuel Malaysia’s badminton development.

“To the young players who dare to dream, the senior players who lead the charge, and the parents who wake up early to send their children to training — thank you for keeping Malaysian badminton alive and moving forward,” Lee shared.

A Clear Target: Thomas Cup Glory

As Malaysia prepares for the Thomas Cup campaign, Lee called for greater unity and collective belief.

“Let this be the year we attack with more unity, defend with greater resilience, and support each other more strongly. We move as one team — and we fight to win the Thomas Cup.”

He concluded by wishing all Malaysians a prosperous Chinese New Year, expressing hope that the festive spirit would ignite a resurgence for Malaysia among the world’s top badminton nations.
