Kuala Lumpur: In a thoughtful and strategic move, Malaysia’s top badminton player Lee Zii Jia has decided not to participate in the 2025 Road to Gold (RTG) program, choosing instead to focus on his ongoing injury recovery.

In an official statement released by his management team TeamLZJ, the decision was made after careful consideration, with full respect for the national initiative. While grateful for the opportunity extended by the RTG Committee, Zii Jia and his team felt that the support should be allocated to other athletes who may benefit more at this time.

“RTG is designed for the best of the best. Since Zii Jia is still in recovery, we believe the resources should support fellow Malaysian athletes currently in active contention,” the statement read.

The team also expressed sincere appreciation to Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister YB Hannah Yeoh and RTG Coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam for taking the time to personally meet with Lee Zii Jia and discuss his potential involvement.

Once seen as a primary medal contender for Malaysia at the Olympics, Lee Zii Jia remains one of the country’s most recognized names in badminton. He continues his career as an independent professional, supported fully by TeamLZJ, and remains committed to returning stronger once fully recovered.
