Indonesia Awaits Malaysia in Quarterfinals
Malaysia’s opening-round victory offered few problems, but the quarterfinal against Indonesia will provide a much clearer indication of the team’s medal prospects.
Indonesia enters the knockout stage as the tournament’s top seed and has considerably more depth across singles and doubles.
Malaysia will therefore need a much stronger all-round performance if it wants to reach the semifinals.
Semifinal Place Would Guarantee Malaysia a Medal
A victory over Indonesia would guarantee Malaysia at least a bronze medal in the men’s team event.
Malaysia has not reached the Asian Games men’s team podium since the 2014 Incheon Games, when a squad led by Lee Chong Wei won bronze.
The country has never won gold in the men’s team event since it was introduced at the Asian Games in 1962.
Malaysia’s best results remain silver medals at Bangkok 1966 and Beijing 1990.

The 3-0 win over Mongolia was the start Malaysia wanted, with Jun Hao, Goh-Izzuddin and Justin all completing their matches without dropping a game.
But the margin for error will shrink considerably against Indonesia.
