Jakarta:
Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, delivered a commanding performance in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Indonesia Open, breaking a four-match losing streak against India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The world No. 7 duo clinched a straight-game victory, 21-19, 21-19, in 43 minutes at the iconic Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun vs. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the 2025 Indonesia Open:
The triumph not only ended their Indian curse but reaffirmed their rising form in the current BWF World Tour season.
“We’re thrilled to finally beat them. Our performance is improving gradually,” said Kai Wun to the BWF.
Wei Chong credited their disciplined approach: “The Indian pair are stronger in speed and power. We stayed focused on our game plan and executed it without stressing about the result.”
Last year, Wei Chong/Tee were runners-up at this very event, losing to China’s Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang. This year, they’re one step closer to the title, but must first overcome Indonesian hopefuls Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, who upset fellow Malaysians Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin in a thrilling 21-19, 9-21, 21-19 quarter-final.
Sze Fei and Izzuddin, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, failed to capitalize on a 19-17 lead in the final game.
“They handled the pressure better at the end. We got nervous and made crucial errors,” Izzuddin admitted.
It marks the third consecutive quarter-final exit for the top-seeded pair, following similar fates at the Malaysia Masters and Singapore Open.
Malaysia’s Last Men’s Doubles Hope:
With Goh/Izzuddin out, Man/Tee are now the country’s sole remaining men’s doubles representatives, set to fight for a place in the final against Indonesia’s Sabar/Moh Reza.
In women’s doubles, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah stormed into the semi-finals with a clinical 21-6, 21-18 win over Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi. The world No. 4 pair are in peak form, having won the Thailand Open and made back-to-back semi and quarter-final appearances at the Malaysia Masters and Singapore Open.
Next, they face China’s fifth seeds Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min—a pair who previously defeated them at the China Open.
“We’re not thinking about the past. We’ll stay focused, rest well, and be fully prepared for tomorrow,” said Thinaah.
