Jakarta: Malaysia’s World No. 20 men’s pair Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun have reached the finals of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament for the first time in their careers, achieving their best performance to date!

Highlights of Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun vs. Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the 2024 Indonesia Open semi-finals:

Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun defeated Indonesia’s world-ranked 29th pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, with scores of 29-27, 21-13 in the semi-finals on Saturday. This victory marks their first win against these opponents in their first encounter.

Despite the audience at the Istora Senayan Sports Arena in Jakarta cheering for the home pair, Man/Tee maintained their composure, especially during the first game, where the score alternated frequently. Although the first game was intense, they eventually steadied themselves to win 29-27.

After winning the first game, Man/Tee gained a confident boost and increasingly dominant in the second game, ultimately securing a straight-sets victory.

This is the Man/Tee’s first time reaching the finals of the highest-level Super 1000 tournament in the BWF World Tour. Previously, they had only won the runner-up position in a Super 500 tournament and claimed titles in a Super 300 tournament.

The Man/Tee duo will be chasing their fourth BWF World Tour title since the start of their partnership. They previously won the Chinese Taipei Open and India Syed Modi Super 300 tournaments twice.

In the finals, their opponents will be the Chinese World No. 2 Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang, who defeated Denmark’s World No. 4 Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen with scores of 21-13, 21-15.

In men’s singles, Shi Yuqi defeated his teammate Li Shifeng for the second consecutive week, advancing to the men’s singles final.

Shi Yuqi, who will rise to world number 1 in his career for the first time next week, defeated his World No. 4 teammate Li Shifeng in the final of the Singapore Super 750 tournament last week. On Saturday, they faced off again in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open.

Like last week, today’s match also extended to three games. In the Singapore Open final, they battled for 1 hour and 27 minutes, and on Saturday, they fought for 1 hour and 19 minutes in the Indonesia Open semi-finals. Shi Yuqi achieved a comeback victory after losing the first game by winning 19-21, 21-19, 21-14.

Thus, Shi Yuqi secured his second victory in their fourth encounter.

This is Shi Yuqi’s fourth career appearance in a Super 1000-level tournament final. Tomorrow, he aims to win his first Super 1000 title in six years since the All England Open in 2018. He also aims to win his fourth title this year, following victories in India, France, and Singapore Opens, while Li Shifeng has yet to claim his first title of the year.
