Kuala Lumpur: The World No. 23 men’s pair – Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have demonstrated great professionalism as they graciously accepted the decision of their coach, Rosman Razak, to return to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as the head coach of the women’s doubles department.

Over the past two years, Ong and Teo have experienced mixed results under Razak’s guidance, notably reaching the final of the 2023 Asian Championships in Dubai and achieving a career-high ranking of World No. 6 in June. Despite their efforts to qualify for the Paris Olympics, injuries ultimately dashed their hopes.

Razak, after a final training session with the independent pair, expressed his gratitude to Ong and Teo for their understanding and maturity in accepting his departure to rejoin BAM.

“Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have shown a high level of professionalism in accepting my decision to take on the role of head coach for the women’s doubles team at BAM,” Razak said. “I officially informed them a few weeks ago, and they have been very mature in understanding that it’s time for both of us to move forward.”

Ong Yew Sin also extended his thanks to Razak for his contributions over the past two years, saying that their current focus is on regaining full fitness. “Rosman has been a tremendous help to us, and although we didn’t achieve the results we wanted, we gave it our all. We wish him the best of luck in his new role at BAM,” Ong remarked.

While they have no immediate plans to hire a new coach, the pair will continue their training under the guidance of Teo Kok Siang.

Ong and Teo will next compete in the Kumamoto Masters in Japan from November 12-17 and the Shenzhen China Masters from November 19-24 to close out their 2024 season.
