Bangkok, Thailand – Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan ended their title drought in spectacular fashion, clinching the 2025 Thailand Open crown with a commanding straight-sets victory on Sunday.
Watch the highlights of Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan vs. Jeong Na Eun-Lee Yeon Woo in the Thailand Open final:
The world No. 4 duo overcame South Korea’s Jeong Na Eun and Lee Yeon Woo 21-16, 21-17 in 58 minutes at the Stadium Nimibutr in Bangkok, marking their first title of the season and a significant return to form.
This win ended their championship drought that stretched back to the 2024 Hong Kong Open and also marked the first-ever Thailand Open women’s doubles title for a Malaysian pair since the tournament’s inception in 1984.
As champions, Pearly and Thinaah took home USD $37,525 (RM161,191) in prize money.
“This victory means everything. We’ve had a tough start this season, but we never stopped believing in each other,” said Thinaah to the Badminton World Federation (BWF). “We pushed through setbacks and kept working hard—today is the reward.”
The Malaysian pair’s path to the final wasn’t easy. Despite a slow start in the opening set, they regrouped, displayed strong coordination, and closed out the match confidently. Their well-executed strategy and resilience helped them dominate the net and force errors from their Korean opponents.
“We reminded each other to stay calm and trust in our teamwork,” added Pearly. “Thinaah was amazing today. We had a plan and stuck to it with the help of our coach. We’re happy but already focused on the next challenge.”
The win offers a timely morale boost as Pearly and Thinaah head into the Malaysia Masters next week. They will open their campaign against Hong Kong’s Fan Ka Yan and Yau Mau Ying at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
“There’s not much time to celebrate. We’ll fly home tonight, have a quick dinner with our team, and reset for Malaysia,” Thinaah said.
