Kuala Lumpur: China’s world number one Shi Yuqi secured his first Malaysia Open title in style, defeating Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in straight sets, 21-8, 21-15, during the 2025 Malaysia Open men’s singles final. This victory not only marks Shi’s first triumph at the prestigious event but also avenges his loss to Antonsen in last year’s final.

Highlights of Shi Yuqi vs. Anders Antonsen in 2025 Malaysia Open final:

Shi’s win ends China’s drought at the Malaysia Open, as the last Chinese player to claim the men’s singles title was Lin Dan in 2019. This win also adds to Shi’s collection of achievements, coming on the heels of his victory at the BWF World Tour Finals last month, where he also defeated Antonsen in straight sets.

Dominant Performance in the Final
Shi Yuqi came out firing, establishing an early 5-1 lead in the first game. He extended his advantage with an 8-point streak at 12-6, finishing the game decisively at 21-8.

In the second game, Antonsen put up more resistance and led 11-9 at the interval. However, Shi quickly turned the tables with a 5-point run, maintaining his composure to seal the match 21-15 and claim the title in just 40 minutes.

This victory flips the script from their meeting at last year’s Malaysia Open, where Antonsen won his first Super 1000 title with a 21-14, 21-13 victory over Shi. This time, Shi’s aggressive play and tactical precision secured his redemption.

Other Finals Results
In the men’s doubles final, South Korea’s Seo Seung Jae and Kim Won Ho defeated China’s Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi in three thrilling sets, 19-21, 21-12, 21-12, to take the title.
