BASEL – The 2026 Swiss Open continued to deliver exciting action as several top players secured their places in the semi-finals across singles and doubles events. The latest badminton news from Basel saw strong performances from China, Japan, Indonesia and Denmark as the BWF World Tour tournament moves into its decisive stages.

Men’s Singles Semi-Final Lineup Confirmed

Top seed Li Shi Feng of China advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Wang Po-Wei. After dropping the opening game, Li recovered well to win the match 8-21, 21-11, 21-15 and keep his title hopes alive in the Swiss Open badminton tournament.

Li will now face Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan, who defeated fellow Indonesian Jason Gunawan 21-14, 21-15 to reach the last four.

On the other side of the draw, Japan’s Yushi Tanaka progressed with a convincing victory over compatriot Koki Watanabe 21-14, 21-17.

Tanaka will meet Indonesia’s star shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who edged India’s Tharun Mannepalli 21-19, 19-21, 21-13 in a hard-fought three-game match.

Men’s Doubles Semi-Finals Taking Shape

The men’s doubles competition also produced several tight matches in the quarter-finals. Denmark’s Christian Faust Kjaer and Rasmus Kjaer advanced after defeating India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

The Danish pair will next face Chinese Taipei’s Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee, who progressed after overcoming compatriots Chen Cheng Kuan and Lin Bing Wei.

Another semi-final will feature Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard against Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul. Lundgaard and Vestergaard defeated Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai, while the Thai pair eliminated France’s Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi.

Women’s Singles Draw Narrows to Final Four

In women’s singles badminton action, Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani moved into the semi-finals after defeating Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh 21-18, 21-10.

Wardani will face Japan’s experienced campaigner Nozomi Okuhara, who defeated compatriot Riko Gunji 21-19, 21-18 to secure her place in the last four.

Another intriguing semi-final matchup will see Chinese Taipei’s Lin Hsiang Ti take on Thailand’s Supanida Katethong. Lin progressed after defeating Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki, while Katethong eliminated Denmark’s Line Christophersen.

Women’s Doubles Semi-Finalists Confirmed

The women’s doubles quarter-finals produced several standout performances. Bulgaria’s Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva advanced after defeating China’s Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh in three games.

The Bulgarian pair will now face China’s Li Yi Jing and Wang Yi Duo, who overcame Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi.

Meanwhile, China’s Bao Li Jing and Luo Xu Min defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lin Xiao Min and Wang Yu Qiao to book a place in the semi-finals.

They will meet China’s second-seeded pair Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, who progressed after beating France’s Francesca Corbett and Jennie Gai.

Mixed Doubles Semi-Final Lineup

The mixed doubles event also produced several exciting results. China’s Zhu Yi Jun and Liu Xuan advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

They will face compatriots Gao Jia Xuan and Wu Meng Ying, who defeated Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch in their quarter-final match.

On the other side of the draw, Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah progressed after defeating fellow Indonesians Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil.

The Indonesian pair will meet China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi, who eliminated Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu to secure their place in the semi-finals.

With several strong contenders still in the draw, the Swiss Open badminton tournament in Basel is set for an exciting finish as players battle for valuable BWF World Tour titles and ranking points.
