Bangkok – Malaysia is guaranteed a semifinal spot in the 2025 Thailand Open after two of its men’s doubles pairs advanced to the quarterfinals, setting up an all-Malaysian showdown in the Super 500 tournament.
World No. 5 pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik delivered a convincing performance against Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita, winning 21-17, 21-17 in just 38 minutes at the Nimibutr Stadium.

The reigning Asian champions will face compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King, who earlier cruised past fellow Malaysians Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai with a dominant 21-11, 21-11 victory.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s top women’s doubles duo Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah exacted sweet revenge on Indonesia’s Lenny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. The world No. 4 pair edged past their opponents 21-17, 10-21, 21-15 in a tightly contested 56-minute battle.
This win was especially meaningful as Pearly-Thinaah had suffered a shocking first-round defeat to the same pair at the Malaysian Open in January.
They now await China’s Chen Qing Chen-Wang Ting Ge in the quarterfinal.
“We’re happy to get the win today. There’s still a lot to improve, but the focus is to stay consistent and prepare well for the next round,” said Thinaah in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Reflecting on the rematch, she added: “It means a lot to beat them this time. That loss in Malaysia really stung, especially since it was on home ground.”
When asked about Bangkok’s court conditions, Pearly noted that they’re staying adaptable:
“Every venue has its own challenges—drafts, shuttle speed, lighting—but we’re adjusting day by day and trying not to let it affect our game.”
In earlier action, Malaysia’s Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing were knocked out by Indonesia’s Meilysa Trias Puspitasari and Rachel Allessya Rose, losing 18-21, 7-21.
Stay tuned as Malaysia’s top doubles pairs battle it out for semifinal glory in the 2025 Thailand Open. 🏸
