Badminton – World number one Lee Chong Wei has confirmed his participation in next month’s India Open, domestic media reported on Wednesday.
The Malaysian will head a field which includes former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat and former all England champion Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, the Times of India reported quoting organisers. The India Open has prize money of $120,000 and will be played in Hyderabad from March 24-29.
Rugby – Wellington Hurricanes hooker Dane Coles will miss Friday’s clash with the Canterbury Crusaders after being suspended for a week and fined NZ$1000 ($513.1) following his arrest for disorderly behaviour last weekend, the New Zealand Rugby Union said.
Coles, the Super 14 franchise’s first choice hooker this season, has also been ordered by the NZRU to undergo counselling for alcohol and behaviour management.
Rugby – Irish rugby club Connacht have snapped up second row forward Bernie Upton from North Harbour in New Zealand.
The 27-year-old former Super 14 player with the Chiefs and the Hurricanes will join in the northern summer on a two-year contract, Connacht said.
