LAI Pei Jing was sobbing uncontrollably after losing twice in the mixed team final tie against China on Wednesday in which Malaysia were beaten 2-3.

And she wants to hit back with a vengeance and get the better of Chinese players in at least one of her two individual events.

Yesterday, the 18-year-old Pei Jing made it to the third round in both the girls’ doubles and mixed doubles events.

The fifth-eighth seeded Pei Jing-Shevon Lai Jemie are tipped to beat Taiwan’s Lee Fang-yu-Wu Yu-lun in the girls’ doubles third round today to get into the quarter-finals for a probable match against second seeds Ou Dongni-Bao Yixin of China.

Quarter-final matches will also be played today from 6pm.

In the mixed doubles, the Pahang-born Pei Jing forms the top seeded pair with Ow Yao Han and they will take on unseeded Chen Zhuofu-Ou Dongni of China in the third round.

She said that she was determined to make up for her bitter disappointment in the team event.

“This is my last shot to win honours in the Asian Juniors,” said Pei Jing, who joined the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) in Form One.

“It was so disappointing in the mixed team final that day as I could not help Malaysia retain the title. The Chinese are the main stumbling blocks again in the individual competitions.

“Hopefully, I can reach the semi-finals in one of the events. It will be tougher in the mixed doubles. Our Chinese opponents are unseeded but they can be dangerous.”

For the record, Malaysia last won the mixed doubles title through Tan Wee Kiong-Woon Khe Wei in 2008. But no Malaysian pair have made the winners’ rostrum for the girls’ doubles.
