London: Daniel James who transferred from Swansea to Manchester United for a reported fee of £15 million in June, and then officially signed a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year with the Red Devils, was actually a huge fan of Lee Chong Wei.
James who was also voted United player of the month for August 2019, told Malaysian media how much he admired the Malaysian badminton legend and wished he could have met the badminton legend in person when Lee was in line asking for James’s autograph during the Manchester United vs. Inter Milan game at Singapore’s National Stadium in July.
“Lee Chong Wei is unbelievable,” said James.
“When I was playing in Singapore, I actually signed the autograph for him.”
“But obviously I was signing a big long line, so I didn’t really look up too much, and I didn’t realize it was him.”
“And I think he sent me a picture on social media, and I said I didn’t realize, I would have say hello, and have a good conversation with him.”
“I used to play badminton quite a bit, but obviously football took over.”
“But I used to watch badminton all the time.”
“And the Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan rivalry they had was amazing.”
The 21-year-old has been one of the hottest rising star in the English Premier League, and has the potential to develop into one of United’s most dynamic players after scoring three goals in his first four game for United.
