Kuala Lumpur: After winning three golds at the Philippine Sea Games last December, coaching director of the Malaysian Badminton Association (BAM), Wong Choong Hann, would like Malaysian players to continue their momentum at the Malaysia Masters which kicked off the first day of tournament on January 7, 2020.
According to Wong, Lee Zii Jia and Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik definitely have huge confidence boost after winning the SEA Games gold medals.
“They are feeling more responsible and this is certainly beneficial for their long-term development. Previously they were still raw and liked to try many things. Now they realized they can be focused,” said Wong.
Wong also acknowledged that it was important to see his players to start building up self-confidence.
“Now they are like and adult and no longer a child. They will certainly work very hard to maintain what they have achieved,” explained Wong.
Wong said he is expecting the same good performance from other Malaysian players at the 2020 Malaysia Masters.
“This year is more challenging as we’re heading into the final phase of the Olympics qualification. Therefore, our players should always be playing at their best,” added Wong.
In addition to Malaysia Masters, Wong would like to see Malaysian players to play well at Indonesia Masters and Thailand Masters that followed.
