Terry Hee/Tan Wei Han Win Orleans Masters, Arif Junaidi/Muhammad Haikal Withdraw After Testing Positive for COVID-19

Orleans: After winning the 2022 India Open Super 500 in January this year, Singapore’s World No. 86 mixed doubles pair – Terry Hee/Tan Wei Han took home their second trophy of the season by winning the Orleans Masters – a BWF Super 100 event on Sunday.

The No. 8 seeds husband and wife pair defeated World No. 49 and unseeded Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati 21-12, 16-21, 21-13 in 50 minutes in the final.

Tan who injured her shoulder in the quarter-finals, was grateful to be able to win the title.

“I am proud of how we played today and we kept encouraging each other to fight for every point and not to give up easily,” said Tan.

Their coach, Yap Kim Hock, praised the pair for executing the proper game plan to secure the victory.

“They were focused and were using the correct strategy,” said Yap.

Next up for Hee/Tan will be the Korea Open – a BWF Super 500 event, which will take place in Suncheon, from April 5 to April 10. They will open against Shin Tae-yang and Chang Ye-na of Korea.

In men’s doubles, Malaysia’s World No. 103 Arif Junaidi/Muhammad Haikal missed out on an opportunity to win their first title of the season after Haikal was tested for COVID-19 on Sunday. Junaidi/Haikal had to concede a walkover in their Orleans Masters men’s doubles final opponents Ruben Jille/Ties Van Der Lecq from the Netherlands.

The men’s singles final saw No. 4 seed, Toma Junior Popov of France, overcome unseeded Mithun Manjunath of India 21-11, 21-19. In the women’s singles final, unseeded Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia upset No. 4 seed Iris Wang of USA 7-21, 21-19, 21-18 in the final.

After winning last week’s Swiss Open, the women’s doubles No. 1 seeds Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria picked up their second consecutive title in two weeks by seeing off unseeded Stine Kuespert/Emma Moszczynski of Germany 21-15, 21-14 in the Orleans Masters final.
