Nguyen needed 45 minutes to beat Thailand’s No. 2 seed Khosit Phetpradab 21-14, 21-17 for the men’s crown.

In women’s singles, Nguyen’s wife and No. 1 seed Vu Thi Trang couldn’t double the joy for Vietnam as she was shocked by No. 2 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand, losing 16-21, 17-21 in the final.

After dropping their first game, India’s teen men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (16-year-old) and Chirag Shetty (19-year-old) staged a fantastic comeback to win the next two games, beating fifth-seeded Thai pair of Trawut Potieng and Nanthakam Yordphaisong 17-21, 21-9, 21-15 to win the men’s doubles title. This was also their first title for the young duo this year and their fifth triumph together as a pair.

Malaysia’s unseeded women’s doubles pair of Joyce Choong and Tee Jing Yi couldn’t keep their momentum going against Japan’s Erina Honda and Nozomi Shimizu in the final, going down to the Japanese pair 14-21, 21-19, 14-21 in 52 minutes.

Unseeded mixed doubles pair Shi Longfei and Tang Pingyang of China pulled off the biggest upset of the finals when they beat No. 2 seeds Irfan Fadhilan and Weni Anggraini of Indonesia 21-16, 19-21, 21-15 in 57 minutes to win the mixed doubles title.
