Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai continue their strong showings at US Open.

Anaheim: Malaysian shuttlers had mixed fortunes at the $120,000 US Open with mixed doubles pairs Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai and Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing among the winners but men’s singles No. 6 seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli falling in the second round on Thursday.

Mixed doubles No. 4 seeds Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai of Malaysia have outclassed Manu Attri/Maneesha K. of India in straight sets to surge into the US Open quarter-finals on Thursday.

Goh/Lai resisted a spirited challenge from the Indian pair to prevail 21-16, 21-12 in 27 minutes. The Malaysian pair will play Kohei Gondo/Wakana Nagahara of Japan on Friday.

The mixed doubles favorite – Malaysia’s No. 1 mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing also produced an imperious display to dismiss unseeded Alexander Dunn/Eleanor O’donnell of Scotland 21-12, 21-18 in the second round. Tan/Lai will face Kim Won Ho/Shin Seung Chan of Korea in the quarter-finals.

Former World Junior champion and No. 6 seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli however was shown the door in round two of men’s singles, suffered a shocking 11-21, 15-21 defeat to Heo Kwang Hee that ended his campaign.
