Jakarta: Susi Susanti, the head of development and high performance for the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), admitted Indonesia has good chance of winning either the mixed doubles or men’s doubles title at the 2017 Total BWF World Championship.

“For mixed doubles, we are still relying on Owi (Tontowi Ahmad) and Butet (Lilyana Natsir), as they are our most senior players,” said Susanti.

Susi Susanti who won Indonesia’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, was hoping another mixed doubles pair Praven Jordan/Debby Susanto would fight for the world title too.

“If they play with full ability, both mixed doubles pairs are capable of winning the world title,” added Susanti.

After weeks of preparation, the former women’s singles world No. 1 player also stressed that Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon who won All England, India Open and Malaysia Open, three Superseries titles within a one month period earlier this year, also have a strong chance of adding the world title to their collection of trophies in 2017.

“I couldn’t be happier with how our team is shaping up ahead of the World Championships,” explained Susanti.

The Indonesian team is scheduled to depart for Glasgow on Thursday.
