Kuala Lumpur: Lee Chong Wei refused to view his World Championships first-round defeat by unheralded Frenchman Brice Leverdez as a signpost pointing towards the end of his career.

Talking to Malaysian media while attending the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games on Tuesday, the badminton legend told reporters that he still has plenty to offer to the country.

“I still can contribute a lot to the nation especially there are more upcoming major championships. I would like to play for Malaysia some more. There will be Commonwealth Games and Thomas cup which we have not won for a while,” said Lee.

“I will continue to do my best to promote the sport in the next few years,” added Lee.

Lee became the biggest casualty of this year’s World championships when he crashed to a 19-21, 24-22, 17-21 defeat in a thrilling first round match that lasted 75 minutes.
