Seoul: Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon lived up to his billing in every sense as the Olympic silver medalist on Thursday, together with his mixed doubles partner, Cheah Yee See, pulled off a massive upset in the second round of Korean Open by knocking off World No. 4 Chris and Gabriel Adcock of England 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 from the tournament.

Chan/Cheah who are playing in their first Superseries outing will meet will play Seo Seung Jae/Kim Ha Na of South Korea on Friday.

The 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games mixed doubles silver medalists Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai of Malaysia also kept up their brilliant run in the second round to outlast compatriots No. 10 Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing 24-26, 21-18, 21-18 in 71 minutes.

“It’s great to be able to defeat Kian Meng-Pei Jing. That shows we are getting better,” said Lai.

Goh/Lai will take on Marvin Emil Seidel/Linda Efler of Germany to fight for a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s luck ran out in men’s doubles and women’s doubles when Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi and Soong Fie Cho/Tee Jing Yi were defeated in the second round respectively.

Ong/Teo lost 16-21, 20-22 to Marcus Gideon Fernaldi/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia, while Soong/Tee were crushed by Huang Yaqiong/Yu Xiaohan 7-21, 17-21.
